Keep Your Sex Searches Private

Mom? What does fellatio mean?

If you share a computer—especially with kids—you can now search for any sex-related (or other personal) information in peace: Ask.com has launched a new program that allows you to keep your searches completely private:

It works like this: After AskEraser is enabled, Ask.com cookies are deleted from your browser and all of your future searches are deleted from their servers as well. The eraser remains enabled as long as you're using the same computer and the same browser.

Or you can always save yourself some time and just head straight to Tracey Cox's archives!

Addendum: Remember the time I said I should have a t-shirt printed for myself that reads "Most Naïve Love & Sex Editor on Earth"? Well, apparently I should be wearing that t-shirt today! (Most days, but today in particular...) A colleague just emailed me to say—and I'm paraphrasing here—"How about searches for 'HOT PORN?' You don't think people will want those searches kept private?"

An excellent point! And, might I add... DUH. Leave it to me.

So, tell me: Do you think this new search functionality is going to exacerbate Internet porn addictions, since there's less of a chance of getting caught?

I think porn lovers will love this, and porn haters will hate it. I also do think that those who are addicted to Internet porn will probably find that this enables them to keep their secrets longer, which probably will make things much worse before they seek or are urged to seek help.

Grrrrreattt! There are enough problems with porn addiction in the world without the addition of a search eraser.
